Working in marketing, copywriting and website design means that we get to enjoy a fascinating combination of tasks for a varied client base. Each job requires a different skill set; today we might be writing about hot properties, and tomorrow we could be Tweeting about things to do in Snowdonia. And the next? Well, there’s probably a website or two being designed and built. No two days are the same, and that’s exactly how we like it!
We are very privileged in that several of our clients have been with us for many years; some since we very first launched our business in 2008. The vast majority of our work is either repeat business or the result of a recommendation, and we like to think we have excellent relationships with our clients.
The following case studies reflect just some of the services provided by debbidoo.
We’ve been working with Dafydd Hardy Estate Agents since 2011, when we were asked to create and send a monthly staff newsletter for the company’s 50 employees working in the company’s five offices. The newsletter template was designed by Droplet, Dafydd Hardy’s preferred graphic designers, and coded by debbidoo. For each edition of the staff newsletter, we collate and write the stories, add them to the template and broadcast the newsletter.
In the years that have followed, our work with Dafydd Hardy has grown to include a number of other ongoing and one-off projects. These include:
Sending customer newsletters via Brief Your Market, a specialist communications tool for estate agents which integrates with Dafydd Hardy’s customer database. Every month we gather links to relevant content from a number of sources (including the business itself, Dafydd Hardy’s partner organisations, industry news sites, local council press releases and the national press), write the newsletter stories, populate the newsletter template and broadcast the newsletters. We have also used Brief Your Market to send special announcement emails and event invitations, and created a series of automated customer surveys and ‘trigger’ emails.
ProperTy: Dafydd Hardy publish a bi-monthly property newspaper, which has a print run of 7,000 and a readership in excess of 14,000. ProperTy is distributed at branches of Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Co-Op from Porthmadog to Holyhead, and is also available at all branches of Dafydd Hardy. Since 2013 we’ve been tasked with writing articles for ProperTy on a wide range of subjects, including the regular ‘Editor’s Choice’ feature, how-to articles on home maintenance and gardening, articles about services provided by the company’s various departments, area profiles, competitions and articles about housing law and regulations. Once each issue of ProperTy is published, it is debbidoo’s job to upload its articles to the Dafydd Hardy website’s ‘news’ pages. On average, we write 3-4 articles per issue.
Other copywriting projects: debbidoo has provided copywriting services for Dafydd Hardy’s sales literature, written articles solely for use on the ‘news’ pages of the website, and produced a 5,000-word article profiling the most popular waterside towns and villages in each of Dafydd Hardy’s five catchment areas.
Susan Jones, Sales & Service Manager at Dafydd Hardy Estate Agents, says working with debbidoo:
“… is a joy. They’re professional, approachable, adaptable, honest and most importantly, meet our tight deadlines. I’d highly recommend debbidoo and their services.”
Norwich International Airport is one of debbidoo’s oldest clients; we have been sending their customer newsletters since the end of 2008.
For each edition of the newsletter, which is currently broadcast every other month, the airport’s marketing team sends debbidoo several news stories and images. We add the content to the template, which was coded for Norwich Airport by debbidoo, and test and broadcast the newsletter.
A few times a year we also broadcast emails on behalf of some of the airport’s tourism partners, including airlines, tour operators and hotels. For these emails we create new templates, based on the main Norwich Airport template, and add the content before testing and broadcasting the messages.
Debbie Edwards, Marketing Executive at Norwich International Airport, says of working with debbidoo:
“Debs has managed our newsletter broadcasts since 2008, with a very friendly and professional approach to customer service. Debs is always very flexible and ensures a quality product is delivered to our customers. We have no hesitation in recommending debbidoo Ltd to other businesses within the travel industry.”
Richard Jones is a local photographer who specialises in both wedding and landscape photography.
Richard came to us with a brief for an online store that would enable him to sell both landscape and wedding photographs online, but it wasn’t a straightforward online store of the type we’d built before, because Richard needed the wedding photos to be password protected so that they could be seen and ordered only by the subjects of the photos.
We created a WordPress website and used the WooCommerce plugin to provide the ecommerce functionality, then added an extension – WooCommerce Dynamic Gallery – which would enable us (and later, Richard himself) to create beautiful image galleries for each wedding couple. Richard’s customers can order their wedding photos in a number of sizes and quantities, as well as DVDs of the full photo sets.
For the landscape photos there were no privacy requirements, as Richard’s landscape photos are available for all customers to view and purchase.
Richard says of working with debbidoo:
“It’s been nearly a year since I made a great decision to ask Debbie to design and build a new website for my photography business. The new website was exactly what I specified – clean, modern and businesslike. It has already made a significant difference to my business, in terms of hit-rate, business leads and direct e-commerce sales. Debbie’s no-nonsense, no techspeak approach was refreshing and professional. This is a great, local and friendly service.”
We have been incredibly lucky to have worked with a number of clients who have gone on to become our friends, and Nicole Aarons of Soma Yoga and Medicine School is one such person.
Debs and Nicole first met when Nicole attended a series of WordPress training sessions Debs was delivering to a group of small business owners in Mid-Wales in 2014. Through this short course, Nicole was able to gain enough experience to confidently add and edit content to WordPress websites.
Within a few months, Nicole asked debbidoo to build a website for Soma Yoga and Medicine School. The website was to be an information hub, but also include an events calendar and ecommerce booking facilities for training courses.
Working closely with Nicole to get the feel of the brand and the business, debbidoo designed and built the website in WordPress and then handed it over to Nicole for ongoing management.
Nicole was so delighted with her new website, she later commissioned debbidoo to build another one, this time for her mother’s business, Rhythmic Cadence.
Nicole says of working with debbidoo:
“Working with Debs on two websites has been an incredible journey. Debs was able to translate beautifully somewhat scattered ideas that I had into a website that expresses my work. Each time I visit the website I am reminded how amazing this journey has been. Debs truly listens and then works creatively – all at your pace. She educates so that you can manage your site as you move forward. I was lucky enough to do some training with Debs and I can now apply this. More than this I have found a friend and I really appreciate this.”
Another business relationship that has grown into a close friendship, we have been working with Wyn Roberts at Marchnata AQUA Marketing in Caernarfon since within a few weeks of debbidoo’s launch in 2008.
We ‘met’ at an online business networking website, where Wyn had suggested the two companies work together on some of AQUA’s larger projects on those occasions when some additional hands on deck would be helpful. Since then, we’ve worked together on a wide variety of projects, ranging from tiny one-page websites to ongoing digital marketing campaigns.
Examples of the work we have done for Wyn and his clients include:
Visit Snowdonia: for many years AQUA and debbidoo have worked together to deliver digital marketing services to Gwynedd Council’s Tourism Department, promoting the Snowdonia Mountains and Coast region. As a team we are responsible for managing Visit Snowdonia’s social media accounts and blogs (in English and in Welsh; Debs writes almost every article for these blogs, the only exceptions being the occasional guest post by other authors which Debs edits and publishes). Other work for Visit Snowdonia has included advertising campaigns on Google AdWords, Facebook and Twitter; customer newsletters; article marketing; and managing content at the Visit Snowdonia website.
Website reviews: AQUA have commissioned debbidoo on several occasions to carry out reviews of existing client websites. These in-depth reviews look at the design, structure and usability of websites in a number of industries, and offer recommendations for improvement.
Website design/build and copywriting: debbidoo has created websites – both static HTML and WordPress – for several AQUA clients, and this work has also included writing copy for the entire website.
Article marketing: in the days when publishing articles at article directories was still a valuable SEO tactic, debbidoo provided article marketing services to several of AQUA’s clients.
Training: debbidoo has worked with AQUA to deliver several training courses on digital marketing, social media marketing and using WordPress.
Wyn says of working with debbidoo:
“I can always rely on Debs to carry out every task professionally and with a great deal of attention to detail. She thinks outside the box, and often comes back to me with suggestions for improving the way we approach a project. Debs is very honest, very reliable, and a great communicator. Partnering with debbidoo means AQUA is able to offer a wider range of services to clients, secure in the knowledge that these services will be provided to a high standard, affordably, and with integrity. We make a great team and working together is always a pleasure!”
